Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Heed (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles your information when you use the Heed mobile application (the “App”).
We respect your privacy and built Heed with minimal data collection in mind. This document explains exactly what we collect, why, and what your rights are.
1. Who we are
Heed is an iOS application developed by Elias Nieto, an independent developer based in Belgium.

2. Information we collect
We collect the minimum amount of information needed to provide the App's functionality.
a) Information from Sign in with Apple
When you create an account using Sign in with Apple, we receive:
- Your name (if you choose to share it)
- Your email address (real or Apple's private relay)
- A unique identifier provided by Apple (“Apple User ID”)
You can choose to hide your email using Apple's private relay; we will only ever see the relay address in that case.
b) Phone usage data
The App detects when your phone is locked and unlocked to count unlock sessions and calculate the time you spend on or off your phone. This data is generated entirely on your device. We never see it.
c) Location data
The App requests “Always” location permission. We do not use, store, or transmit your actual location. Location services are only used to allow iOS to keep the App running in the background so that it can detect lock/unlock events. No coordinates ever leave your device.
d) Optional email subscription
If you opt in to “receive email updates” inside the App, we save your email address and Apple User ID to our database so that we can send you product updates. You can revoke this at any time by toggling the setting off.
3. How we store your data
- On your device: All phone usage data (unlock sessions, daily stats) is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework.
- In your private iCloud: Your name, Apple User ID, and account creation date are synced to your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. We cannot access this data — it belongs to you and is encrypted by Apple.
- In our public CloudKit database (opt-in only): If you enabled email updates, your email and Apple User ID are stored in a public CloudKit database that we can access for the sole purpose of sending you updates.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, tracking SDKs, or any external servers besides Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.
4. How we use your data
- To operate the App's core feature (tracking your phone usage).
- To restore your profile when you reinstall the App or use it on a new device.
- To send you email updates only if you opted in.
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with any third party.
5. Data retention
- Phone usage data stays on your device and in your private iCloud for as long as you keep the App installed.
- Email subscriber data is kept until you disable the email updates toggle or delete your account.
- When you sign out from within the App, your profile and email subscription are deleted from our public CloudKit database immediately.
6. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Object to processing of your data.
- Data portability.
You can exercise the deletion right directly inside the App by signing out (which removes your subscriber record), or by emailing info@be-heed.com. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Children's privacy
Heed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Security
Your data is stored on Apple's infrastructure (iCloud / CloudKit) and is protected by Apple's encryption and security standards. The App does not maintain its own servers.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. The “Last Updated” date at the top of the document will reflect any changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
